QUESTIONS ANSWERED
Can I still use my side mirrors to see behind me?
Yes! The side pods are slanted up slightly allowing you to see past MoonLander and still use your side mirrors to see behind you.
Insulation?
Yes! Radica offically offers insulation packages for our campers now. Pricing is on the respective campers pages. We achieve an R7 value with our insulation.
If I get a new truck, will MoonLander transfer over to it?
Between some trucks yes. Others no. Generally if you stay in the same truck model between generations you will have better luck than jumping to a different model. MoonLander side rails need to make full contact to the truck bed side rails, and must be able to be clamped down securely. If this cannot be achieved, we do not recommend it. Front to back measurements aren’t as important for securely fastening, but they might need some additional sealing to keep water out.
How long does install take?
About 1 hour. We will lay down the truck bed seal, secure down the camper, and wire in the brake and side marker lights if you have a 4-pin or 7-blade connector port. (They make splitters for these ports, so if you plan to tow stuff you can use a splitter to run both the MoonLander lights and the trailer lights at the same time.)
Can you ship MoonLander to me?
We offer shipping to vendors shops that we have teamed up with across the country. Please check our Install Locations page to see our current vendors. All campers are built in Colorado and can be shipped to these locations for a trained team to install them. Each location is subject to its local sales tax and shipping fee.
How much does a truck bed camper cost?
Our campers and toppers are built to order, so the final price depends on your truck size and the options you choose. ROVER starts at $3,899 for a mid-size 5' bed, $4,099 for a mid-size 6' or full-size 5.5' bed, $4,399 for a full-size 6.5' bed, and $5,099 for an 8' bed. MoonLander starts at $5,600 and goes up to $7,000 before options. MoonLander X starts at $7,950 and goes up to $9,650 before options. Options are priced à la carte and added to your liking.
Is a truck bed camper worth it?
It depends on how you camp and how you use your truck. If you want a hard-shell setup that is ready as soon as you open the hatch, keeps your truck usable, and gives you a real bed platform without towing a trailer, MoonLander or MoonLander X is a pretty sweet setup. If you want more of a topper platform with serious storage and roof-rack utility, ROVER is built as our side pod topper with integrated roof rack.
What's the difference between a truck topper and a truck camper?
A truck topper is usually a basic shell over the bed. A truck camper is built more around camping and living space. MoonLander sits in the middle: it drives like a topper, but gives you a hard-shell camping setup with side pods, a lofted bed, and room to build it out your way. ROVER is our topper-style direction: a side pod topper with revolutionary storage capacity and an integrated roof rack.
Truck bed camper vs rooftop tent — which is better?
If you want fast setup, hard walls, and a bed that lives inside the camper, MoonLander is a great alternative to a rooftop tent. There is no canvas to fold, no ladder required for the bed, and you can keep your truck bed usable by stacking or removing the bed panels. If your goal is more of a topper and roof-rack platform for your own buildout, ROVER is the better place to look.
Truck bed camper vs pop-up camper — what's the difference?
A pop-up camper gives you more vertical space at camp, but it usually takes more setup and has soft-sided sections. MoonLander and MoonLander X keep things simple with a full hard-shell design: no canvas, no zippers, and no pop-up routine. ROVER keeps that hard-shell/topper simplicity too, but is aimed more at storage, utility, and roof-rack capability than built-in sleeping space.
How heavy is a truck bed camper?
MoonLander is intentionally lightweight for a hard-shell truck camper. Mid-size builds are typically 225-320 lbs, full-size builds are 260-360 lbs, and 8' long-bed builds are 310-420 lbs depending on options. MoonLander X is larger, with mid-size builds at 320-430 lbs and full-size builds at 360-520 lbs.
Will a truck bed camper affect my gas mileage?
Rover will be around 1 mpg, MoonLander 2 mpg, and MoonLander X 3 mpg. Can be slightly more or less depending on many condisitons but overall our tops are very aerodynamic.
Can I still use my truck for hauling with a camper on it?
Yes. MoonLander is built so your truck can still be a truck. The two lofted bed panels can stack out of the way or come out completely, giving you room to haul larger gear when you are not sleeping in it. ROVER is even more topper-focused, with side pod storage and an integrated roof rack for customers who want utility first.
Can two people sleep in a truck bed camper?
Yes. MoonLander is built around a full-size lofted bed platform, with twin, full, or queen platform options depending on your truck and build. MoonLander X also adds flexible bed, couch, and stow modes for more living space.
Can you stand up in a truck bed camper?
In the standard MoonLander, you sit and sleep in the lofted bed area rather than stand upright. MoonLander has 33.25 inches between the bed frame and roof. If more headroom is the priority, MoonLander X gives you more interior height and flex space. WIth a bubble window in MoonLander X, people under 6' tall can pretty much stand up! Even without the bubble, MoonLander X is very spacious and alows you to move around, change, and do what you need inside without hassle.
Is a hard-shell camper better than a soft-shell?
We think hard-shell is the way to go if you want simple, fast camping and a great nights sleep. MoonLander has no canvas, no zippers, and no setup routine. Open the rear hatch and camp is ready. ROVER follows the same hard-shell protection idea as a topper platform with all-hard walls and an integrated roof rack.
What's the difference between the MoonLander and MoonLander X?
MoonLander is our original hard-shell side-pod camper with an east-to-west lofted bed. MoonLander X is the next evolution: it adds the cab-over section, improved headroom, couch mode, stow mode, and more flexible living/storage space.
What's the difference between the MoonLander and the ROVER?
MoonLander is a camper built around sleeping and living space. It gives you side pods, a lofted bed platform, and massive east-to-west sleeping setup. ROVER is our side pod topper: it is more storage- and utility-focused, with revolutionary storage capacity and RADRACK, our integrated off-road roof rack built into the mainframe. You can still sleep sideways in ROVER, but there is not as much room.

What is the MoonLander made of?
MoonLander uses reinforced aluminum framing, thick 1/16-inch aluminum skins, stainless steel hardware, marine-grade sealants, and a 1.25-inch UV-stabilized polypropylene honeycomb roof. The insulation package adds 1-inch foam board, FRP, automotive carpet, and marine foam decking. ROVER’s RADRACK is built from laser-cut, powder-coated aluminum and integrated into the topper mainframe.
How durable is the aluminum shell?
Very durable. We build MoonLander to be overbuilt for its weight. The shell uses reinforced aluminum framing, 1/16-inch aluminum skins, stainless steel hardware, marine-grade sealants, and a reinforced honeycomb roof. ROVER’s RADRACK is also built into the mainframe and uses laser-cut, powder-coated aluminum with adjustable T-slot crossbars.
Is it waterproof?
Very waterproof. We take pride in our toppers being some of the most water tight tops out there. Our inherent design means water tight seals and joints, and if there ever is a leak we will help you fix it. We are not responsable for water coming in through the truck bed, however our weather flaps significantly help reduce this from happening.
How does it hold up in snow?
Best in the business. No popup mechanisms means virtually unlimited snow capabilities.
Will it rust?
No. MoonLander uses aluminum skins and stainless steel hardware, so the core materials are built for marine use. ROVER’s RADRACK is laser-cut, powder-coated aluminum. Like any vehicle accessory, road salt, harsh chemicals, and long-term exposure can still affect finishes and hardware over time.
What kind of maintenance does a truck bed camper need?
Maintenance is pretty simple: keep the exterior clean, inspect seals and hardware periodically, check clamps after rough travel, and keep road salt and grime from sitting on the camper for long periods.
What is the warranty on a RADICA camper?
MoonLander has a two-year warranty from the date of install for the original buyer. It covers the camper, RADICA-installed accessories, and incorporated component parts against defects in materials, structural integrity issues, and workmanship defects.
How do I clean the exterior of the MoonLander?
Do-it-yourself car wash with soapy water spray and high pressure clean water. For stubborn spots you can spot rinse with dish soap, simplesgreen, or IPA.
How do I seal or reseal the camper?
If you ever notice a seal issue, reach out to us before digging into it yourself. We can help identify the seal location and recommend the right next step so you do not make the problem harder to fix.
