MLX BUILD RECOMMENDATIONS
Below are some tips on how to customize your MoonLander X so that you can enjoy it to the fullest. This is a combination of feedback from customers and from our own nights in a MoonLander X. Of course, this is your MoonLander so please feel free to build it your way!
Bare Minimum
At a bare minimum we recommend at least one fan and one screened window. The fan allows you to control temperature and condensation inside of the camper. You want to be able to pull fresh air in through a screened window, and remove old air with the fan.
Sleep Orientation
We recommend sleeping with your head on the passenger side of the camper. We run all of the power cables from various options to the passenger side by the door. This area is where you will want your battery station and where you will charge your gear and control power output. Sleeping with your head on this side of the bed will make it easy to charge your phone, control your lights, etc.
Fan Placement
With MLX, we recommend the fan to be placed Center/ Towards Cab on the roof. This will allow for central airflow in our larger camper, including good exhaust of moisture and allowing the fan to blow down on you when in couch mode on a warm day.
Windows
Air Flow - Windows help you control air flow. We recommend having a screened window on the driver side and passenger side of the camper. This allows you to control air flow when the fan is in exhaust mode. On a warm night, you can open the window at the head of the bed to pull air over your body to cool you down. On a cold night, you can crack open the window at the foot of the bed and run the fan on low to cycle fresh air and control condensation without losing your body heat.
Front & Back Windows - These will allow you to see through the camper while driving.
Side Window Placement - With MLX, it is nice to have a large window on each side of the camper, centered. This will allow for a nice panoramic view when sitting in couch mode. At a minimum, we recommend a window at the foot side of the sleeping bed (Driver Side) so that when you sit up in bed and lean against the wall you have a view to the outside.
Arctic Tern Windows - These windows really enhance the feel, aesthetics, and function of the camper. They offer big views to the outdoors, and because they open awning style you can have them open when it's raining. The built in shader is extremely convenient for privacy and controlling air flow as well. They are insulated and look awesome! Our favorite setup is a 450x900mm at the foot of the bed, and a 300x700mm high up at the head of the bed.
Slider Windows - These certainly get the job done as well and have a pretty dark tint, these are going to be less pricey.
Porthole Windows - Make your camper look like a spaceship. These are mostly for aesthetics and have a dark tint.
Bubble Windows - Bubble windows have pros and cons. You will gain 4" of head room in the standing area of MLX, you can fall asleep under the stars, and it lets in some nice light. However it can let in too much light sometimes, and it can accumulate condensation.
